Geriatrics Fellowship Program Application Requirements

Eligibility:

To apply to UC San Diego one-year Geriatric Medicine Fellowship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Completed training in an ACGME accredited residency in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • Be able to start the fellowship on July 1st
  • For international residents, we accept applicants who hold a valid J1 visa
    • We are unable to accept applicants requesting a new or continuing H1-B visa
  • New for 2026-27: 
    • The US Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA) has recently announced that residents and fellows who engage in clinical rotations at VA hospitals in the upcoming academic year will be required to undergo a more substantive background check/clearance process than has been required previously. For US citizens, this includes a Tier-1 background check and an ongoing, continuous FBI database check. For foreign nationals on a Visa, a higher-level federal government clearance is required.
