Year Round Opportunities

The Triton Research & Experiential Learning Scholars (TRELS)

The Triton Research & Experiential Learning Scholars (TRELS) program is sponsored by the Council of Provosts of the Undergraduate Colleges at UC San Diego and the Undergraduate Research Hub. TRELS empowers students to pursue intellectual opportunities beyond the classroom, by providing support in the form of funding and mentorship. This program is intended to expose students to experiential learning, including, but not limited to research, guided artistic or creative projects, and public service opportunities, under the guidance of a UC San Diego faculty member. There is a particular emphasis on serving students who may face obstacles in pursuing such opportunities. Learn more here.

Stanley E. Mills Memorial Scholarship

The Stanley E. Mills Memorial Scholarship supports students majoring in microbiology or related fields who demonstrate academic excellence and a passion for research in nutrition or aging. Eligible students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are encouraged to apply, with preference given to those focusing on the intersection of nutrition and aging. Applicants should provide detailed information about their interest or research in these areas in the supplemental questions section of the application. Learn more here.

Summer Opportunities

Eureka! Scholarship Program

Eureka! Scholars is a highly competitive summer research training program for some of our most promising undergraduates. Each year, we select outstanding students to participate as Eureka! Scholars during the summer months in leading life sciences labs. Under the guidance of a mentor, Eureka! Scholars conduct leading-edge research which greatly expands and integrates their academic learning and jumpstarts their role as young scientists in the discovery of new knowledge. Learn more here.

The Undergraduate Summer Research Award

The Undergraduate Summer Research Award provides funding for UC San Diego undergraduate students majoring in the physical sciences (astronomy & astrophysics, chemistry & biochemistry, mathematics, physics) to conduct a summer research project under the guidance of a UC San Diego faculty member. The program immerses students full time in a research topic for 10 weeks. Students are awarded a $7,500 stipend in support of their time and efforts conducting a summer research project. UC San Diego's Undergraduate Research Scholarship (URS)

In UC San Diego's Undergraduate Research Scholarship (URS) program, several different donor-funded scholarships are available across multiple research areas. Undergraduate students use the funds for a research project to be completed over the summer under the guidance of a UC San Diego faculty mentor. The URS Summer research project must be work above and beyond the normal course of study. Students should have a project where their role is defined and that they can take ownership of, even if it is part of a larger project. Learn more here.
