San Diego/Imperial Geriatric Education Center (SDIGEC)
The UC San Diego Division of Geriatrics, Gerontology and Palliative Care and San Diego State University (SDSU) are co-leads on a Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) award funded by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This grant is helping to develop and expand the health care work force trained to better care for older adults in San Diego and Imperial Counties.
Through this grant and other division initiatives, we have established partnerships with several local community organizations to expand our training efforts.
This grant allows us to continue the San Diego/Imperial Geriatric Education Center (SDIGEC) and its important work educating local healthcare providers and communities on Alzheimer's Disease and geriatrics! It is building upon the regional Alzheimer's Project Initiative to increase the healthcare workforce trained across multiple levels to enhance care for those with memory loss and maximize patient/family engagement to improve outcomes on a county-wide level.
