The San Diego Alzheimer's Disease Resource Center for Minority Aging Research (AD-RCMAR)

UC San Diego, in collaboration with San Diego State University, leads an Alzheimer's Disease Resource Center for Minority Aging Research (AD-RCMAR). It is one of eight AD-RCMARs funded across the United States by the National Institute on Aging. This center is a partnership between the UC San Diego Division of Geriatrics, Gerontology & Palliative Care and the Department of Neurosciences, and San Diego State University's Department of Psychology and Graduate School of Public Health.

Our Goals

The goal of the San Diego AD-RCMAR is to enhance the diversity of the aging research workforce by mentoring scientists from underrepresented groups for careers in Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders (ADRD) relevant research.

Our theme is to examine priority areas of social and behavioral science related to ADRD, including research on the epidemiology of ADRD, preventative interventions for ADRD, and the formal and informal care challenges of individuals with ADRD. We encourage transdisciplinary research, along with projects specifically focused on ADRD in older Latinos.

"It's essential that we fill critical gaps in Latino ADRD research, while catalyzing the research careers of investigators from underrepresented groups. We look forward to doing this in partnership with our two institutions and our community. In the end, we expect to have a meaningful impact on Alzheimer's disease in the Latino population by fostering the success of the scientific workforce from Latino and other minority groups investigating this brain disease"
